Visit to Epwell Mill

About 15 members visited the garden of Caroline and David Long at their converted water mill in Epwell on Wednesday evening.
Despite the unseasonal weather, grey and overcast for May, a guided  tour was followed by a hour or so talking to our hosts and enjoying wine and home made nibbles.
The garden made full use of the surrounding streams either as ponds or waterfalls and despite it's size felt comfortably split into human size areas.
An enjoyable evening, looking at someone else's handywork, chatting, eating and sipping was had by all present.
These gardens are open to the public at other times of the year and dates can be found in the yellow book run by the NGS.

Bourtons Gardening Club Wisley Visit 10th June

A cloudy cool day for the club’s outing to the RHS gardens did nothing to dampen our spirits on the journey or during the day.
A mixture of club members, friends and a small number of members from other clubs enjoyed a delightful day wandering around this showpiece garden.
A particular attraction for us was the new glass walk through domes similar to those at the Eden Project in Cornwall and containing
exotic plants, temperature zones and the clever use of water.
The weather worked in our favour since it seemed to have the effect of reducing the number of other entrants and thus providing our party with more space.
Finally a bonus not having to drive back home after a long day.

Finally a special thanks to Ray Jordan for his planning and organisation ensuring that the day went well.

Posted Wednesday June 30th:     Mrs Kay McEvoy

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of  Kay, for many years a keen member of the Gardening Club.

Kay lived in the village for over 40 years and was an active participant in village life. She went to the Arts Group the Historical and Music Societies, as well as being in the W.I. and a member of the National Trust

As a member of the gardening club for 12 + years (and until recently a committee member), she was a mine of information on countryside walks. She knew many places to visit and the names of Speakers to invite.

A talented artist, avid walker, historian and many other things, she was a big hearted lady, always busy, but keen to help. She will be sorely missed!
