We were a little quiet last year, as I think both the committee and our regular supporters needed a break. I had suggested that this year we commence proceedings to plan and organise for a celebration of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 (the tenth anniversary of the founding of LBE), however Prince William has presented us with something to celebrate a little sooner!!!
Royal Wedding:
Sam and George at The Plough are organising a whole day of activity for the wedding day visit the Plough pages for more information.
Diamond Jubilee
Street style party .
The jubilee may be more suitable for the Street style party, similar to what we did in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee.
We will hold a villages meeting after the Royal Wedding, sometime in May. I have been in touch with the Chair of the Parish Council and at present they have no plans to organize anything and there is unlikely to be any funding available from the government.
I have also attended Mr. Baldry's open meeting which was to discuss Banbury's celebrations and when I asked why it appeared that the discussions seemed purely focused on the town centre the reply from him was "the villages do their own thing don't they!" at that point I walked out, I have to say a little annoyed. If we want to get any sponsorship then we best be quick because Mr Baldry and his team will be approaching all the major companies ie: Tesco, Sainsburys etc. Looks like we will have to fund it ouirselves! we did it once so lets do it again!! I do think that maybe Mr. Baldry has missed an oportunity by not involving the villages (he is after all our MP also).
please contact me with any ideas for how we may celebrate on the day and also with any fund raising ideas
