After feedback CDC are changing the parking charges in Banbury
Posted by Julie Tomlin on Oct 19 2011Parking regulations in Cherwell District Council vehicle parks will change on 14 November as agreed by the Executive earlier this year.
New charges were introduced in April and three months later, following comments received from vehicle park users and traders in the district, the council reviewed them.
This resulted in a number of changes, as follows:
* The removal of evening charges with hourly parking tariffs applying until 7pm
* Free parking for blue badge holders within designated blue badge holder bays only subject to the time restrictions for each vehicle park
* Blue badge holders in a paid-for space will receive an extra hour's free parking after the expiry of paid for parking
* A 50 per cent discount for early payment of all categories of excess charge notices if paid within fourteen days of issue
* A reduction of 10p per hour applied in Bicester Town Centre to take into account disruption during the redevelopment works - this will be implemented at the same time as all other changes
* Sunday and bank holiday parking charges reduced to £1 for all day
* Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day remain free
Following this decision the council was required to ensure the correct legal processes had been followed before introducing the changes.
As part of this the usual notices were placed in newspapers and on the website warning of the changes and inviting feedback which did not result in any further amendments.
High-visibility signs are now being placed in all council vehicle parks warning that the changes will be introduced on Monday, 14 November.
Further notices will go up across the district encouraging vehicle park users, including blue badge holders, to check the information boards near ticket machines.
Cllr George Reynolds, deputy leader of the council, said: “These changes have met with approval from the vast majority of people who responded to the consultation.
“Again we are going well above and beyond what we are legally required to do in publicising them.
“I have no doubt that there will still be those who, for whatever reason, will be unaware of the changes but it would be impossible for us to ensure everyone is informed.”
