Bourtons Fete 2009 raises £1000!!!

Posted by Julie Tomlin on Sep 01 2009

The Bourtons turned out en masse to enjoy dry weather, fabulous cream teas, competitive games, bargain stalls and learned how to Hula! Our Disney friends delighted the children (except for Fergus who found it all too much - sorry Fergus!).  A special thanks to them for finding time in their busy schedule to come to the Bourtons.

Stall and games holders were run off their feet in the most successful fete the Bourtons has seen for many years!  The organisers thank everyone for the tremendous support shown yesterday (31st August) and in the weeks of collecting beforehand.  The Bourtons were generous in their donations, their cake and preserve making, their time and effort and their support on the day.  We thank you!

Special thanks to Macca, Finley, Isaac, Paul, Julian, Sally, Ed. Dave, Nick, Anne and Ray for their help setting up and taking down; to the Prew family for taking on the collection for Little Bourton (thanks Noreen for delivering the flyers), and Anne, Charlotte, Rhys, Jackie, and Maggie for doing the same in Great Bourton; to Margaret, Aylesha, Kelsey, Roanna, Gina (alias Cake Queen), Maggie (Tombola Queen), Judith, Margaret (alias Clare's mum!) and Anne for running the stalls and Nick, Mike, Dave, Mark, Jackie, Alex and Clare for running the games.  Thanks too to Jakub, Paul and Amanda for demonstrating the Bourtons website at the fete.  And another big thank you to the Cafe Church team (Pauline and Diane) for their wonderful cream teas.  The message has clearly got out about Cafe Church - they sold out! Further thanks to the Townsends for lending us hay bales again...

Debbie the hula queen was fantastic and had us all gyrating - we have hidden talents in the Bourtons!  A huge thanks to her for her boundless energy and enthusiasm.  She made it all look so easy....

And a final huge thanks to Lawrence, Leanna, Toby, Hannah and Sam....  They know what for!!!

This could not have all happened without the tireless support of Frank, Freya and Matthew at the Bell who again provided the venue, help and support, and a way of keeping the daddies happy whilst their children spent their money!

A wonderful thank you message came through to the website editors from Caroline who wrote:

"Thank you so much to all involved with the Bourtons Fete this afternoon. It is always very special to me to see all the villagers getting together as one community - young children taking part in simple but fun competitions, adults chatting away and catching up with their news and Disney charatcers mingling with the locals!
Great Bourton can be proud of its community spirit - it is still there for everyone to enjoy on these such occasions. Long may it continue."

Thanks Caroline.  Makes it all worthwhile!

We thank all our supporters for their kind and generous donations for raffle prizes and prizes for the various games - North Oxfordshire Wine, Crofts Pets, Barnstones Caravan site, Trinders toys, Hook Norton Brewery, Toni and Guy Banbury, Beautiful in Middleton Cheney, Barn Farm Plants in Wardington, the National Herb Centre in Warmington, The Fabulous Bakin Boys, and McVities.  Their generosity meant that our raffle and games were very popular and we could make more profit for our good causes.  Heartfelt thanks.

The money will go towards two good causes - The footpath project to build a new footpath alongside the road between Great Bourton and Cropredy, and the All Saints Church building fabric fund.

Sue and Julie.

PS The rabbit was called Corky (drawn out of the hat) and the cake weighed 5lbs 14oz (2.671kg).  Shame on all of those who made comments about the chef and the heavy cake....
