High Speed Rail HS2 Petition
Posted by Jakub Deka on Sep 18 2011On Tuesday hundreds of campaigners lobbied Parliament ahead of the final session of the government's Transport Select Committee. During the hearing Philip Hammond, Transport Secretary admitted the £17 billion high speed rail line was a "rich man's toy" which "might never be used by a factory worker in Manchester", yet still continue to back the scheme. The Government has announced it would only bring the issue of HS2 into the Commons if 100,000 petition signatures were received via a dedicated website. this decision rendered tens of thousands of hand-collected signatures gathered from across the country invalid in the campaign.
