Information

Great Bourton

The Great Bourton play area is located off Main Street, on the right hand side of the road as you go up the hill through the village and just past the left hand turn for Crow Lane.

The area is inspected every week but if you find that something is damaged or not working properly please report it here.

Little Bourton

Located near the bottom of Chapel Lane, is a large play space with a variety of play equipment for children and a selection of outdoor gym equipment which is also suitable for adults.

Play Areas

Great Bourton and Little Bourton each have their own play areas, different in style and presentation, but both offering a range of play equipment to encourage social interaction in the community, and a different experience in each place. Both playgrounds are located in positions with excellent views of the surrounding countryside and so can  be a destination  for a short walk, even if you do not want to go and play.

Throughout 2007 and 2008 considerable work was done to upgrade the facilities in each play area.  Supported by the Parish Council, various grants from Cherwell District Council and others, and years of local fund-raising by a willing band of volunteers, sufficient sums were raised to ensure that the new play areas met  the requirements of the young (and not-so-young!) in the villages.

Since that time further improvements have been made and new equipment added. In Great Bourton we were delighted when the electricity supply cables were eventually put underground, and the overhead high-voltage cables removed. In Little Bourton the park benefitted from additional S106 funding from the developers of Pinson Close at the west end of the village. This enabled the addition of the Tannebaum rotating conical climber, and a set of Great Outdoor Gym Co. apparatus, with safely enclosed mechanisms, to address the exercise needs of the older residents of both villages.

Great Bourton

After approximately 5 years of fundraising, applying for grants and lots of carol singing(!) the money needed to transform the Great Bourton playground was raised. It took 3 weeks to take the 2 old items out (namely a non-rocking horse and some old swings!) and replace them with many items of fantastic equipment, chosen by village residents and children.

Little Bourton

The Little Bourton play area, located near the bottom of Chapel Lane, is a large play space with a variety of play equipment for children and a selection of outdoor gym equipment which is also suitable for adults.

The play area was refurbished from November 2008 onwards, with generous grants from TOE, SITA and Cherwell District Council, lots of fundraising and a contribution from Bourtons Parish Council.

For years it had only limited equipment but enjoys good views down the Cherwell Valley.  An adult picnic shelter is strategically placed so that visitors can enjoy the view across the valley.
